Treo Eile Backs Polo as a Second Career for Thoroughbreds

Treo Eile is proud to announce the 2025 Polo Sponsorship campaign, an initiative that celebrates and supports the transition of retired racehorses into the sport of polo. Building on the success of previous years, this ongoing sponsorship reflects Treo Eile’s continued commitment to promoting second career opportunities for thoroughbreds and recognising the vital role of their retrainers in this process.

Across six national polo tournaments, Treo Eile will award prizes in both the High-Goal and the Low-Goal competitions.  Horses will be identifiable with Treo Eile hip stickers during each tournament. These recognitions aim to spotlight the adaptability of thoroughbreds and the expertise of the trainers who guide them into their new careers.

Thoroughbreds continue to prove exceptionally well-suited to polo, with their speed, agility, and competitive spirit making them a natural fit for the demands of the sport—and their growing success on the field is a testament to their adaptability and athleticism. One success story to date includes “Lady Gaga” who won the Best Playing Pony at the Bunclody Polo Club Tournament last year, owned and ridden by April Kent.

The 2025 series includes:

  • Bishopsland Polo Club – May 24/25

  • Bunclody Polo Club – May 31/June 1

  • Polo Wicklow – June 14/15

  • Northern Ireland Polo Club – June 21/22

  • Curraghmore Polo Club – July 19/20

  • All-Ireland Polo Club – August 9/10

Additionally, Treo Eile will continue its support of the Jockeys vs. Trainers Charity Polo Match at the All-Ireland Polo Club in September—an exciting and meaningful event organised by Derville Meade. The sponsorship concludes with the prestigious Pakistan Cup which also takes place at the AIPC in September.

“We are thrilled to continue supporting thoroughbreds beyond the track and celebrate the community making this second career possible,” said Anne O’Connor of Treo Eile. “Each of these horses carries a story, and their transition into polo showcases their adaptability and spirit.”
