Michael Harty is manager at Cashelbay Stud Farm in Galway where he breaks and produces all the youngstock for the show ring (working hunter and showing). He competes all over in the UK and Ireland and has won many big titles at Clifden, the RDS and Olympia. Michael is also a qualified ride/conformation judge for the Irish shows Association and a qualified inspector and judge for the Connemara Ponies Breeders Association.
As an aside he also retrains racehorses with his flagbearer being Aintree Grand National-second Black Appalachi who now enjoys a quieter life parading at racecourses around the country. Foaled in 1999, the Dessie Hughes-trained Old Vic gelding still parades at racecourses around the country and lives alongside Velvet Maker (2nd in an Arkle), at the picturesque coastal farm.
