The fifth of our Randox sponsored series of training clinics moves south to Kilkenny on Friday May 12th. Nicki Russell will deliver a Thoroughbred Showing Clinic at the Kilbride Equestrian Centre, which is based near Callan.
The evening of three sessions which starts at 5pm, will commence with an introduction to showing session. This is suitable for the rider who would love to partake in a showing class with their thoroughbred, but do not know where to start. Also a wonderful opportunity to introduce a recently retrained racehorse to group riding as a prep for the showing season.
The participants in the second and third sessions will come away with a better understanding of the criteria attached to the ‘Novice’ and the ‘Open’ Racehorse to Riding Horse classes. This will also be aligned to the Treo Eile run Showing Pathway Series. The learnt skills of showing etiquette, ringcraft and turnout will enhance the partnerships in the show ring this summer.
HSI level 2 coach Nicki Russell who also evented internationally at 3* level, really caught the retraining bug when she worked for trainer Henry de Bromhead. Part of her remit was to assist the racehorses with flatwork sessions, which introduced her to Cheltenham winner Sizing Australia. This partnership went on to win the Racehorse to Riding Horse classes at Balmoral and Dublin Horse Show, before being placed at the ROR Championships in the UK.
Transferring their skills to the dressage arena, Nicki and Sizing Australia won the 2021 HSI Development Prelim Final and was second at the Dressage Ireland National Championships.
We would like to reiterate our thanks to Randox Health for their continuous support through the sponsorship of our training clinics.
